GE "sausage" bulb heater
employing two large frosted lamps. These lamps contain heavy
"U"
shaped carbon filaments which produce more heat than they do light. Sausage heaters came in
many different styles including fireplace inserts, some very ornate. The idea of heating with electricity was first
thought of by the Englishman Dowsing in 1890. These became very popular in England and as time progressed these
"electric fires" were designed to simulate the effect
of wood burning in a fireplace and are still very popular today in
England. This heater is
from
the early 1900s.
